Louise, Texas is located in Wharton County approximately thirty-two miles south of Wharton and forty miles north of the city of Victoria. The city was established in 1881 on a site along the route of the New York, Texas, and Mexican railway and was named after the daughter of the railroad's director, Colonel D. E. Hungerford. The climate in Louise is relatively hot during the summertime months, with high temperatures reaching into the mid nineties and cool during the wintertime when temperatures tend to dip into the forties and fifties. Annual rainfall for Louise averages approximately forty-five inches per year, with September being the wettest month.
The Louise State Bank Building is the cornerstone of the town. Built in 1903, it was used by the local bank until 1974, when the bank moved to larger quarters and donated the building to the city for its Chamber of Commerce offices. The Louise Methodist Church has been a figurehead in Louise since 1893. Although it has undergone several remodeling projects, the church still holds services in the original church building.
Lake Texana, located just eight miles south of the city, provides an excellent location for outdoor recreational activities and freshwater fishing for the city of Louise.
