About Blessing, TX - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Blessing, Texas is a rural community located in northwestern Matagorda County approximately fifteen minutes north of Palacios, Texas and one hour and forty-five minutes southwest of the city of Houston. The climate in Blessing is categorized as humid subtropical, producing relatively hot summers with highs reaching into the mid nineties, and mild winters with lows in the mid forties.
Blessing was established in 1903 by Jonathan Edwards Pierce, who donated six hundred and forty acres of land at the site where the Southern Pacific and New York Central Railroads were to intersect. Reportedly, Pierce was so thankful for the railroad that he originally wanted to name the town "Thank God," but the name was rejected by the US Postal Service, so he settled for Blessing instead.
Hotel Blessing was designed in the Mission Revival architectural style and opened in 1907. It is listed on the National Register of Historical Places, and has been a focal point of the community since its beginning. The Blessing Historical Society currently operates the hotel. The Hotel Blessing Coffee Shop has long been a gathering place for locals and was the subject of a CNN article in 2010 by CNN reporter Wayne Drash, who dubbed the restaurant the "best dang food joint in Texas."
St. Peter's Catholic Church has a lengthy history in the Blessing community and has long been known for providing prayers and support for local residents. The church was built in 1915 on land donated by the town founder, Jonathan Edwards Pierce. St. Peter's annual Fall Festival is a community tradition.
